See: Complete Story and Character Guide

A post-apocalyptic world where humanity has lost the sense of sight — and a blind warrior who protects his tribe from a new threat: people who can see.

See premiered on Apple TV+ on November 1, 2019, as one of the streaming service's flagship launch titles. It ran for three seasons totaling 24 episodes. Starring Jason Momoa as Baba Voss, the series is set in a future where a devastating virus has wiped out most of humanity and left survivors without the sense of sight.

Apple TV+ cancelled the series after three seasons — allowing the story to reach a planned conclusion. While the cancellation was still disappointing to fans, the third season was written as a series finale, providing more closure than most cancelled shows receive.

The Premise

Centuries after a virus destroyed civilisation and rendered humanity blind, a tribal society has developed using other senses — echolocation, heightened hearing, tactile communication. Baba Voss, a fierce warrior and leader of the Alkenny tribe, adopts twins born with the mythical ability to see — a gift that has been lost to legend. When the tyrannical Queen Kane learns of the twins' existence, she dispatches her witchfinders to capture them, believing sight is the key to ultimate power.

Full Season Recaps

Season 1 (2019)

Baba Voss protects his family from the forces of Queen Kane, led by the ruthless General Tamacti Jun. The season explores the world's unique sensory culture — how tribes hunt, fight, and communicate without sight. Baba's children, Haniwa and Kofun, begin to discover their ability to see, which threatens to expose their secret. The season culminates in a brutal battle for survival.

Season 2 (2021)

The twins' ability to see is revealed, and the balance of power shifts. Baba journeys across new territories, encountering new tribes and new threats. Queen Kane's grip on power weakens as internal conflicts emerge. The season expands the world significantly, introducing new cultures and exploring the political landscape of this blind civilisation.

Season 3 (2022)

The final season brings the story to a conclusion. Baba Voss faces his greatest challenge yet — a new threat that endangers not just his family but the entire future of humanity. The season explores whether sight is a gift or a curse, and what it truly means to be human. The series finale provides a definitive ending to Baba's journey, with his legacy secured and the fate of the twins determined.

Character Guide

Baba Voss

Jason Momoa plays the fierce warrior leader of the Alkenny tribe. Baba is a man of honour and violence — he will kill anyone who threatens his family. His arc across three seasons is about learning when to fight and when to trust.

Queen Kane

Sylvia Hoeks plays the terrifying antagonist. Queen Kane is a woman who has built an empire based on lies and brutality — and she will do anything to maintain power, including sacrificing her own children.

Maghra

Hera Hilmar plays Baba's wife, the biological mother of the sighted twins. Maghra carries the secret of the twins' origin and must navigate her loyalty to her family against the political realities of their world.

General Tamacti Jun

Archie Madekwe plays Queen Kane's right-hand man, a witchfinder general who tracks the twins across the world. His arc — from ruthless hunter to disillusioned rebel — is one of the series' strongest.

Why Was See Cancelled?

Apple TV+ reportedly decided to end See after three seasons — a planned conclusion rather than an abrupt cancellation. The series was one of Apple's most expensive productions, with significant location shooting, elaborate sets, and a large cast. While the show had a dedicated audience, it was not among Apple's biggest hits. The creators were given the opportunity to write a series finale, providing more closure than most cancelled shows receive. Baba Voss's story reached its natural end, even if the world of See could have supported more seasons.
