TV Shows Cancelled — Every Cancellation

A running list of television cancellations — updated as new cancellations are announced.

Streaming platforms continue to tighten budgets, corporate mergers reshape priorities, and shows continue to get the axe at an alarming rate.

Major Cancellations

Dexter: Original Sin (Paramount+ / Showtime)

One of the most painful cancellations of the year. The prequel was renewed for a second season in April 2025, then the renewal was reversed in August 2025. Showtime's most-streamed premiere ever (2.1 million viewers) wasn't enough to save it.

Star Trek: Discovery (Paramount+)

The series that launched the current era of Star Trek television concluded with its fifth and final season in early 2025. While the show was allowed to plan its ending, the cancellation marked the end of an era for the franchise's streaming presence.

The Spiderwick Chronicles (Disney+)

A fantasy series based on the beloved book series. The show was filmed and completed — then Disney+ decided not to air it. It was later picked up by The Roku Channel. A rare example of a saved cancellation.

Kaos (Netflix, 2024 — cancelled early 2025)

Jeff Goldblum's Greek mythology reimagining premiered in late 2024 and was officially cancelled in early 2025. One of the most debated cancellations of the year.

Constellation (Apple TV+)

Noomi Rapace's psychological sci-fi thriller was cancelled in mid-2024 but the announcement carried into early 2025 discourse. A show that was gone before it ever really arrived.

Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix (Netflix)

An adult animated series set in the Ubisoft universe. Cancelled after one season.

The 2025 Trend

The 2025 cancellation landscape shows the same patterns as previous years: first-season cancellations dominate, streaming platforms are tightening budgets, and even renewed shows are vulnerable to un-renewal. The difference in 2025 is that the market has fully adjusted to the post-peak-TV reality. Platforms are no longer greenlighting shows the way they were in 2020. Every renewal is a negotiation. Every season could be the last.
