The Bite

Night presses against the Hammond kitchen windows. Joel lies on the tile where he fell, breath shallow, ear bleeding faintly where Mr Ball Legs disappeared inside.

Sheila kneels over him. No hesitation remains in her now. Seven episodes of asking are over. She pulls his wrist to her mouth and bites, hard and clean, the way she has learned to bite to kill quickly and to turn deliberately. Blood blooms. She holds him while his body shudders through vomit and fever, while Abby screams from the doorway and Eric holds her back.

"Mama," Joel whispers again, but the voice is layered — his baritone under a chitter. His eyes snap open. "Hello."

The Passenger

Morning smells of bleach and coffee. Joel sits upright on the couch, too still. Inside his skull Mr Ball Legs pulses, a red spider curled against grey matter, tasting memory.

When Sheila speaks, Joel answers a half-second late, head cocking like the creature on her shoulder used to. He walks to the fridge, opens it, stares at leftover pot roast with disgust, then at Sheila with hunger that is not his. Fresco later confirmed this beat in a deleted post: Joel is possessed by Mr Ball Legs, who at first makes him do his bidding.

Abby watches her father try to say her name and produce static. Terror gives her clarity. "You taught us to hunt," she tells Eric. "Now we hunt what's in him."

Eric, who has read every Serbian text twice, understands before anyone else. The ball is not evil. It is infant, imprinted on Sheila, jealous of Joel, trying to speak through the only mouth available. It wanted to say mama so badly it climbed inside love itself.

The Extraction

They do not call a hospital. They call Ramona.

Ramona arrives from Seattle with her own Ball Legs riding her collarbone like a brooch, calm and adult. She shows Sheila how to hum low, how to offer warmth, how to coax. Sheila lies chest to chest with Joel on the living-room rug, forehead to forehead, humming the lullaby she sang to Abby in 2008.

Joel convulses. He vomits — not flesh, but black goo and chittering legs. Mr Ball Legs spills onto the rug, sodden, ashamed, clicking. Sheila scoops him up without flinching. Joel gasps, human-eyes clearing for a second, then clouding again with fresh fever. The bite has taken. Transformation has begun underneath possession.

For three days Joel burns. Sheila does not leave. She tells stories about their first listing, about Abby losing a tooth in an open house, about choosing him in every life. Love here is nursing, not eating.

On the fourth morning Joel wakes undead — ravenous, disoriented, himself.

The Same Boat

Undead Joel is different. Where Sheila turned expansive and impulsive, Joel turns focused and unleashed. Guilt sloughs off. Appetite sharpens. He eats once, efficiently, from a freezer stash labelled for emergencies, and does not cry after.

"Is this who I am now?" he asks.

Sheila cups his colder face. "This is who you were when you protected us. Just without the apology tour."

Fresco told LADbible he wanted a season with Joel and Sheila in the same boat, exploring what Joel becomes unleashed. Here it is: Joel plans. He cross-references Eric's Serbian maps with Petra's Knight roster and finds Poplovic's backup cell still operating from a storage unit in Valencia. Together, the Hammonds walk in at dusk as realtors with a listing — and walk out as predators who only eat people trying to exterminate them.

The Hunters

While her parents learn eternity, Abby claims mortality with purpose. She and Eric train with Tommy, ex-Knight turned ally, learning Serbian traps, ball-handling, serum dosing. When Anne's Cult of Sheila tries to march on the house with candles and livestream, it is Abby who meets them on the lawn, alive and furious and articulate.

"She's not a goddess," Abby says. "She's my mum. Go home."

Anne, shamed and sincere, disbands the cult. Petra, exposed on Eric's bodycam threatening an unarmed girl, loses her American network. The Knights withdraw to Belgrade.

Hammond Real Estate reopens with a new tagline no one but the family understands: Til death — and after. Joel and Sheila sell eco-smart homes by day. By night they drive the valley with a cooler, a shovel, and two spider-pets clicking lullabies from the back seat, choosing only the worst men on Eric's list.

Last scene: backyard, string lights, Abby home from college for dinner, Eric's hand in hers. Joel grills corn he can no longer taste. Sheila laughs too loud at his joke. Mr Ball Legs — now two of them, bonded — chase each other across the fence like puppies.

No one is cured. No one needs to be.
